i run component at home between my upscaling dvd player and my 52" hd lcd (1080p) and i can attest to the fact that there is no noticeable quality difference when i use an hdmi cable instead.

this is wrong take a look at it again, but instead of looking at the bright areas look at the dark areas. HDMI and component will look the same in the lighter areas of the picture but when you look at the darker area HDMI has way more detail. HDMI can carry way more bandwidth that component, component losses detail in the dark areas because those are the areas where you really wont notice all though it is there.
