I could drop the charges if it were me under certain circumstances. Now, I understand panic. Been there, done that. You do stupid things. So, if I have to come looking for you and catch you hiding somewhere, not a chance. However, if you panicked and came back, I might consider it ONLY IF the victim didn't die as a result of your fleeing. IOW, if the victim was lying in the ditch and was bleeding to death, no. However, if someone else was there and could render aid, that might be worth considering.
