It's no stretch to conclude that us humanoids have altered and are altering many of the various balances which have existed in the natural world for a long time.
There's not much to be said for going off half cocked and succumbing to fear and paralysis but dismissing the concerns of the many, many people who have been watching this situation unfold as mere 'fear-mongering' is not accurate, IMO.
