It seems that we are seeing more and more cars reach very high mileages. Remember when 75000 was considered a lot?

I routinely got 200+ out of my GM cars. The only exceptions were the Impala SS 70k and the '57 which has 69k when I sold them. The Suburban now has something like 150k on it. I wonder if I can get a sticker and do the whole mileage badge thing or if that is only for pickups. I usually keep a car until it just cannot be repaired any longer. Usually its the bodies that give out long before the GM engines.

I have had great luck with the Chevy 350 in the Suburban (except for the freaking computers) the 350 in the Impala SS, the third year issue 283 in the '57 and even the 305 in my 1977 Impala lasted over 230k and 15 years. My Pontiac 389 was a demon and the Buick 455 was a torque monster. Even the little aluminum flat six in the Corvair was a good engine. It did not leak oil (they all do) but it did throw fan belts.

Not so much luck in Ford engines. 85 Escort laster 50100 miles! 89 Taurus lasted for about 98000 miles before one of the heads went.
