To continue the hi-jack...
Since I own a Hyundai ( or more precisely My Wife has the Hyundai), I participate in a Hyundai Forum.
It is interesting to read what issues people seem to have with their Hyundais. The biggiest issues ( most discussion) have been Noisy suspension and sloshing fuel tank.
Very little on engine, trans, etc. You can tell that Hyundais appeal to many of the boy-racer types by the discussions on modifications.
Overall, I'd have to rate the reliability as very good. What a marketing concept--offer the consumer good quality with very high "content", at a price well below the rest of the market. That formula speaks of sucess. Also, every time they re-engineer any platform, the new car is vastly superior to what it replaced. They are making huge leaps in their product.
BUT...
There has been some disturbing discussion about a noisy start-up on the large V6 in the Entourage. They use a top-side oil filter ( like MB) and some vehicles have some noise at start-up. It may be a faulty anti-drain back valve. The disturbing thing is that apparently Hyundai Corp Offices have decided that this is "normal, and Acceptable". and their field people are stone-walling. One owners told the factory service rep that it was not "normal" and asked that any or all other similar vehicles on the dealer's lots be started up to see if they all did it. The factory servcie rep declined.
If they hope to move up-market, they must absolutely stop this sort of action, and make satisfying the customer the highest priority. They also need to weed out some dealers who are the true scum of the earth bottom feeeders.
The auto business is competitive!
To return to the original thread topic...( after a fashion)
Hyundais are a lot like Ely Manning--under appreciated, but gets the job done.
