Doc,
I KNOW its low on oil since I only put back about 3.5L and I removed about 5.5L, so we are 2qts low.
Could this indeed be the problem? Not enough hydraulic pressure in the system to actuate the valve body?

R and D feel like N, engine revs, absolutely no lurch or movement.

There were 2 areas I thought of and checked.
1. Metal lever which slides into gear slot, its seated as when removed.
2. Sliding piston with orangy/red plastic square piece on end.
It had to be pushed in/retracted into valve body, in order for the entire assembly to go back into the tranny. (i noticed when i removed the valve body, it slid out slowly)
