I finally got around to washing and photographing our new ride....
My wife had been getting around town in a Jeep Cherokee we bought about 1 yr ago. In that year it had the 2 worst problems a car can have. It wouldn't start reliably and it wouldn't stop (moving) reliably. After $1000 and 2 weeks in the shop for brakes, and 4 other weeks in the shop for the starting problem, we started thinking about replacing it.
Wifey had seem me get my 240D up to speed and also how I was able to work on it myself - and how much I ENJOYED working on it. And she felt like I was ignoring her car problems
So she figured if ya can't beat em....
So we sold the Jeep and started looking for 1980's era MB diesels.
We had 2 in mind - one was a very nice, garage kept 300Dt, the owner was asking $8000

(negotiable)
The other was a 1985 300TD in Houston (3 hrs.away). owner was asking $3900.
We called and asked about the condition of the 300TD, and were assured it was in fine shape...no leaks, little if any rust -
I had asked opinions here about it and TylerH860 tipped us off to another 300TD in Houston - owner asking $5500
So we drove to Houston the next day to look at both. We bought the one Tyler tiped us off to.....Owner took $5000.
As you can see, she's in great shape....ACC works, original radio and ant. work, 1 rip on the driver's seat, but other than that interior is pretty flawless. He R&R the brakes and the SLS!!!
We still have to replace the rear shocks

passenger side is leaking -
And, there was water under the footwell of the third row seats - PO says it is a leaky tank or tube from the rear window washer....seems to be true - we pulled up the old rubber stuff under the carpet and dried it out and it has stayed dry so far.
Car says 205k miles, and it's probably close, though the odo is slipping a bit.
Most important, after changing filters and adjusting the throttle linkages and such, she runs great and shifts smooth with no smoke at all.
Still I am going to do a Diesel Purge tomorrow j.i.c.
So, I will certainly be full of all sorts of new questions for y'all - 240d is soooo simple, and no turbo or weird suspension, so I am in new territory......
Most of all, thanks to Tyler for finding our family car for us
Come to SA hungry, Tyler!
