123 speedo gears? 240D versus 300D

OK - a few weeks ago I picked up a '83 240D with a swapped in 300D motor of the same vintage. When they did the swap, they swapped in the 300D tranny too as it had lower mileage. At low mph the speedo is correct but once I hit around 45mph according to the speedo I'm actually doing 55mph according to my GPS. I'm completely clueless to this and am wondering if the tranny has a plastic gear that is easily swapped out like most other cars. In theory, this should fix my problem - right? Are the 240D & 300D tranny the same one (clueless question as I didn't research that answer as I should of )

Oh - BTW - this is my first post though I've been lurking for some time and I must say out of all the MB sites this seem to be the best. Thanks.
