The lock smith will come with his Lock-out kit. He'll pull out a small plastic wedge and stiff wire with right angle hook one end and a handel on the other.
He will place the wedge into the top of the door and pry it open enough to let the wire lock knob puller be inserted. Then he'll pull up on the knob.
The plastic wedge is what makes the procedure easy. A nice soft pine wedge fine sanded , childs building block or solid door stop can be substituted for the Pro tool.
A welding rod with a hook bent at a right angle is better than a flimsy hanger.
You can also google up slim-jim or lockout kit and order one.
