I use a rechargeable Remington foil shaver -- the foil is the thin piece of metal with the small holes in it that the hairs poke through so that the razor sharp undulating blade can slice them off. The thinner the foil, the closer the shave.
The damn foil will wear a hole in it after a few months, replacement is about $13, if you can find the foil separate. Usually you get it with a new blade and it costs about $22.
Funny thing, I can buy the entire shaver on e-bay now for about that much, including shipping. With the new blade and foil in place. This is the best way to go of course, because the nifty little trimmer pop up thingy will get dull eventually and you can't get a new blade for that. The pop up is like a mini hair shear and it's great for getting the hairs that get too long for the foil thingy to get hold of.
The rechargeable part is useful cuz I shave while I commute. Safer than driving while using a cell phone; you can tell by the sound it makes if you're still cutting hair. When I come to a stop, I put in a minute or two with the mirror, and I'm done. Time is money.
