This is just a theory but you may be able to go to an office supply store and pick up some transfer lettering like Chartpak and apply them to the piece. Then, Radio Shack sells the acid used to etch circuit boards. You can soak it and it removes everything except where the letters are.
The only problem is that you don't have much time to experiment and get the process right...
