I was going to suggest Deep Creek Lake in western MD....but I don't think they allow house boats.

I spent a week down there last summer with my family and it's gorgeous....and not nearly as far away as Lake Mead....unless that's your intent?

Cool idea though....I'm sure this forum can suggest something.
