I have a 1988 300TE, and lived with bad cold starts for five years. Started fine when warm, but when cold it would take multiple turns of the key before it would start, and then it would sputter until it finally caught.

I had many mechanics try to fix the problem over the years, but none could figure it out until now.

The car had good fuel pressure and spark when cold, so they started looking at the cold start system. It took them eight hours, but they found some valves in the cold start system that were not opening and closing properly.

They repaired those valves, and now you can turn the key half way and the car starts like a new car, it dosen't matter how cold it is outside!

I've had that problem for so long, it seems like a miracle that the car now starts like a new car.

So for all of you who have cold start issues, if you have good spark and fuel pressure, have someone take a look at the cold start system.
