Now that there is more info, I had a Chevy do that to me. A month later the T/C grenaded and took out the front pump, which then ended in a tranny that sounded like a grinding power steering pump when the engine was running, with no foward or reverse.
Before the tranny finally went south, it felt like it was put in neutral, or it would take a bit to engage. Once going it shifted fine also.
So I would not worry about the shifter bushings like I said earlier.
Also, when the tranny was rebuilt, it is possible they stabbed the converter wrong on the input shaft.
