I spoke to MB and on my 01 they claim to be able to disable it. I have had no issues so far and have not subscribed after the first year. I did pull the Tel-Aid Fuse, and immediately got an error code in my cluster, it cleared when I repowered it.
The reason I wanted to disable it, someone pushed the button, and it kept on dialing and getting an intercept. It almost drove me nuts!
