It was a payphone. I used coins. My cell phone was not operational over there. No way to prove I called. But, why would I choose to spend an additional $800 unless they failed to pick us up? It's easy to prove that the car rental company is lying. Calling their number now leads to the same anonymous phone mail. In addition, the first e-mail response to the problem by the car rental owner was that their office was closed due to extreme winter weather and his duty manager directed me to get a car at National Car Rental. It was a sunny day and I never talked to anyone. His story is now different.
Travelocity doesn't require deposit on a car rental so I never used my card with the original reservation.
