I agree. When I was a kid I used to drag my father down to the local Mercedes showroom every now and then just to look at them. We used to be in awe of the uniqueness and quality of them. That was confirmed and enhanced by the odd occasion that we got to ride in the few examples that the more fortunate members of our family had bought. We never had that kind of money.
When I had my 240D recently I spent quit a bit of time in the dealers parts department. I'd often walk thru the showroom and take a look at the new cars on the floor. Sad but true that there was not a single one of them that made me feel the way I used to back in the day. It will take them years to regain what they have lost. If ever.
