This sounds like the latest auto gimmick: hoods that open automatically - along w/winshield wipers that turn on when sensing moisture, and doors that close themselves. But seriously, I would check the latch & catch. They should be at 90 degrees and flat w/each other. If not, they could be worn, allowing the latch to slide. Also check the tension of the spring. It should be quite strong.
