There's also a vent system, from the bottom of the tank that should be checked for leaks. There may have been some additional plumbing added to this when the car was imported, and this should be checked as well.

Your idle problem is probably a tired auxiliary air valve, or cracks/leaks in the rubber air lines. Look around the lower left front of the engine block, and you will see them.
