That statement tells you don't really know all the work that is involved in a proper paint job. Its like when people are shocked that two touch up coats of varnish cost $2,500 on there boat. You want to say work with me, see what goes into it and then you won't complain.

The reason they do the door jams is to prevent the paint seam on the edge, and for a perfect match. Are you going to pull all the glass? The shop would, that takes time. Do you have a spray booth? A positive pressure resperator? Materials alone for that job are probably near $1k, heck the paint alone is probably $250+ a gallon. I don't know what the guns cost, I know my friend bought one for like $1k. I'll WAG that a positive pressure resperator runs $300-$500, then setting up a dust free booth has to cost a few bucks.

$5k is for a good driver paint job, a concours paint job like someone would put on a Gullwing or 540K can easly run $20k.
