Got to be absolutely the most common acronym on this forum. It fixes everything, don't ya know

It stands for overvoltage protection. It is like a UPS (uninteruptable power source ... or some such) power supply for various car computors. It is basically just a power relay but it has the ability to clip voltage spikes that could damage the controller. It uses a zener diode that passes voltage at some amount through a fuse to ground. So if you are pumping more than say 18v out of your alternator it takes the extra to ground blows the fuse and protects. It is usually blown by poor jump starts, but yours won't be blown as that would be a permanent problem. If the OVP is the problem on yours it is defective.
