From the EPA list, it LOOKS like the system was converted to R134a. I will look at the fittings closely tonight. The reason I am even looking at the gas is that there is a really smudged sticker saying something about adding dye to the system, but I could not make out the refrigerant type.
I have not yet looked at the electrical connections to make sure that the compressor clutch is getting powered. That is a weekend job. If it does need gas, I am taking it to a shop. I just did not want to go in completely ignorant and have a guy scam me into doing a R134a refit if it was still using R12.
