Wind Screen Rebuild Answers
Phil Here, Re: Wind Screen Rebuild and Re-finish. They say that "Necessity" is the mother of "Invention". So I study my damaged Wind Screen for about a half hour and come to the conclusion that all it is Window Screen with rounded "corners". Now comes the problem. I pulled the whole screen apart and then took it down to my " Professional" Screen Maker offered him 50.00 to do the job. He has the Frame for three days, Than calls me to say it is imposable to do the job due to the rounded corners and the nature of the Fabric that he has available. I say Bull ****,
I take my Wind Screen home and very carefully do it myself, The Project took me a little over two hours. It was a little frustrating at first but then became a labor of love. I would hate to have to make a living out of this.
I'm probably a bad guy for saying this, But I hate doing things for other people, It dose not become "Fun' any more and if comes out bad than you real feel Crappy.
1 The Material can be purchased at any good Hdwe.Store [Ace]
2 Original WindScreen Spline was "Flat" I used 140 Ga.Round.
3 The "Chanel" or Groove is very deep, 3/8".
4 The need of a second application of Spline is just for a finished look.
5 Original Screening is not available, Use very fine Black Nylon or Fibreglass Screen material. They call it, 20/20 Ga. mesh.
6 I sprayed my WindScreen with SEM Black Semi Gloss, The finished product looks like it was Powdered Coated, Nice Paint.
I hope I have answered some of you questions, Take your time and enjoy the project. PS; If someone knows where to obtain the original fabric I would like to know, I think my Screen turned out well but I would have no objection to doing it over with Original material.
