How many miles does your car have?
I am also leaning to that conclusion that they did everything right except for the advice to retain the chain.

I don't know what is the real milage of the car but the condition is it has a little blowby, starts great, is powerful enough to do 60mph in 20 secs. since the turbo was fixed, and goes 24mpg. The valve adjustment should have made an improvement on 0-60 and suddenly... something snapped!

Oh well, I'm going to the shop later and find out how she's doing.
