"our supposedly Christian nation"

By what possible measure could anyone call this a Christian nation?
There was a time when a majority expressed a Christian world-life view, even if not actually being Christians. That is no longer the case. Even moral tenets as basic as the ten commandments are no longer held by a majoroty of Americans. Lying is accepted if it furthers your political aims. In fact if you are a liberal, the news media will marvel at how skillfully you parse your words. Aldultery is more common than monogamy. A large slice of our economy is built on coveting--" I gotta have_____". Taking the Lord's name in vain?--I know I hear that one broken dozens of times every day--I work in construction. The concept of a Creator who will also hold accountable His Creation is foreign to our national thinking.
We are the nation of humanism--we trumpet everything that elevates MAN, and defies any possible Creator.

I prefer the line once attributed to A. Lincoln, and here only poorly remembered --I care not so much as to whether God is on my side as to whether or not I am on His.
