For example, the constant refrain about how we abandoned the people of Cambodia to the horrors of the killing fields is utter nonsense.
We couldn't subdue Vietnam with troop levels of between 3 and 5 hundred thousand for YEARS, how were we going to continue, with the success that was just around the corner
, that failed enterprise while also invading Cambodia and doing the same there?
And besides, as it is utterly clear to anyone with out chestfuls of lettuce clouding their vision, we paved the way for Pol Pot and crew, more bombs than on Germany in WW2, and this in a country that had very few industrial targets. Exactly what targets were we bombing with those "dumb" bombs?
It destabilized the hell out of the existing power structure and handed the propaganda victory of a lifetime to the Kmer Rouge. And then we were going to waltz in and expect the people to run to the shelter of our benevolence??! We'd have had rougher sledding there than in Vietnam.
