Is the subframe the "A" shaped section that the wheels connect to, that moves vertically with the suspension and bolts to the frame? (it has been a couple months since I have looked under the rear of an old MB) Would it be apparent when looking underneath if it was cracked?

I just found a thread in vintage about worn out or broken springs causing the same thing.
