I've had the same pre-filter on my wagon for the last 20k miles running biodiesel. Are you sure it's not the rngine heat melting the plastic. Are you heating your biodiesel at all for winter use? If you are then I would remove the plastic prefilter, because that filter isn't designed to deal with heated fuel.
