Oh yea, thumbtacks in the headliner. How did I forget about this issue?

I never had the problem. Either the headliner stayed in place, or had been removed by a prior owner. One of the cars had the cloth part with the backing foam removed, and the underlying polyurethane foam was spray-painted black. Another simply had the whole assembly removed from the car, leaving you looking at steel with dampening tar attached.
