I have the same problem exactly as you describe. First accused a bad fit on the VC gasket, reset the VC and checked, no leaks.
I feel this has something to do with the so called oil separator in the air filter housing. I cleaned up the mess then routed the oil line from air cleaner into a plastic 2 ltr pop bottle to fastened to the left of the intake "U" pipe. Two days of driving collected an egg cup of oil and no mess below the air filter housing. I will try to refine this system.
