There's a guy here in So.Fla who is doing something similar.
Trouble is, from what he's shown on Craigslist, 99+% of his bicycles are makes and models that are in no way safe to actually ride. Anything from Huffy, Magna, Mongoose, Schwinn, Roadmaster, Triax tends to have unsafe, substandard construction and bottom of the barrel parts that fail and leave you stranded.
Two different friends of mine have had parts of their brand new Wal Mart bikes snap off while crossing intersections and send them flying onto the ground in traffic.
I always flag his posts down whenever I see them, to prevent someone else from having something happen. Imagine what a second-hand bicycle that was that quality to begin with is going to be like.
I own two bikes, my girlfriend two also. Off-road, it's a Specialized for me; on-road, it's a Motobecane with a carbon fiber front fork. I wouldn't touch anything put out by the brands I listed with a 10 foot pole no matter how much it cost -- case in point, Triax makes a "road bike" that's probably equally unfit for actual use.
