As MBZ said, starving fuel or air is the only way to kill a diesel (excepting the modern computerized ones). The battery, glows, & ignition switch do nothing once you are past the starting up phase. (This is good knowledge to remember in case of a runaway). The only reason the key kills it is the vac switch in the back of the ignition switch for the shutoff valve.
I really do have to ask...WHY on gods green earth did this guy have to pull all the vac lines to do a brake job?
