I have used the 1157 and 1156 in my 240d and 300sd. Never had a problem but don't remember if they were used in that location or not. Just went to Kragens with the old bulb and they matched it up with Sylvania bulbs.

Probably the worst thing that would happen is that they would burn out quickly if not suited for that use.
