Diesel oil is still needed to initiate combustion however. Full power cannot be obtained with LPG as it "crowds out" the air needed for combustion, nevertheless the possibility of obtaining power from methane, butane, propane, etc is not to be sneered at now that white (road legal) diesel fuel is £1.30 per litre on the motorway. Incidentally the £1.20 and £1.19 supermarket sellers seem to be permanently sold out, things are getting like a Mad Max movie!
