With what do you threaten and pressure them with? More words? Pretty empty unless you can carry out the threat. You are assuming they are going to be reasonable. Do you think they are reasonable or will be? Not without something stamping them down first.

Nobody is reasonable
after you've assaulted them. They may temporarily concede, but bet your a$$ they'll take the first shot they can at you.
We have negotiated with many countries with positions of varying opposition to ours. Like the Soviet Union or South Africa or China. Do you really think any of them basically gave in because of fear of what we might do? Global politics is more complicated than carrot and stick.
