Tell that to the automaker's lawyers. All the safety and creature comfort crap that comes on cars now weigh them down considerably. The only way to get over it is to use more carbon fiber and more efficient engines. The carbon fiber ain't cheap, and the efficient engines are already on the market with more and better coming.
