Have you, or anyone else, figured out the cause for the slowdown? This machine has absolutely no spyware, no viruses, 1GB of ram, no heavy applications (the total is less than 350MB at any given moment, unless Firefox overloads the CPU).
Running Registry mechanic cures 100 "errors" in the registry, but the machine doesn't run any faster.
Anybody know the solution (spare me the "buy a Mac" responses, please)?

Clear your prefetching file. That seemed to speed up a 4 year old laptop I had laying around.
