I have an 1983 240D (123 series). I temporarily fixed the problem. I added a ground wire to the back of the fuel gauge and grounded it onto the dashboard sub frame where everything else is grounded. It seems to have worked. I believe it even fixed the fuel gauge which hasn't worked for years. I am hesitant to replace the instrument cluster. What do you do about the odometer reading?
