Thinking WAY ahead to the future when the body rusts away from my easily rebuildable (but still functional) 603.961 engine in the SDL. Don't think I'll ever buy another w126 because, barring something unforeseen, I think my engine is easily going to outlive my body - and when the engine needs rebuilding, I think the body will be too worn out to put a rebuilt engine back into (economically).
Here's what I'm hoping can be done... thinking of this in terms of 3-7 years down the road when my 603.961 is worn out and my w126 doors fall off from the rust... I would like to buy a w140 diesel with a rod-bender and drive it until the 3.5 dies and then... abandon the 3.5. While I'm getting those last few miles out of the 3.5, I will rebuild my 603.961 in the basement at leisure and have it ready to go back.
I would like to hear from anybody who has put a 603.961 into a w140 body that was originally powered by a 603.971. I'd also love to hear from anybody who knows a really good reason why such a swap would be impossible.
Thanks. This is years down the road but I might go on and start looking around (and saving up) for that perfect garage-kept rod-bending w140 in anticipation of rebuilding my .961 and dropping it in when the time comes.
I tried a few different search terms and couldn't find a previous thread that was somewhere along this subject...
