I'm a little confused about where your sunroof is stuck. Are you saying there's an opening at the front, with the rear of the roof panel still underneath the plane of the roof? I.e., it needs to go forward and up if it were to reach the closed position?

If that's the case, I'd start by disconnecting the cable from the transport bridge, then push the roof into the closed position. That way you won't get rain in the car, and you can focus on repairing the problem.

I don't think the nut will always work in closing the sunroof. If you're problem is a broken cable or broken lifts arms, the all that's going to move the roof is your hands. Does the roof move at all when you try to close it? If not, can you at least hear the motor "trying"? These things can help determine if it's a motor problem, clutch problem, adjustment problem, cable problem, lift arm problem, etc.
