I was re-reading some evaporator threads, and it seems like if you could find an evaporator with all-copper tubes (fins will be aluminum), then that's even better, as it is supposedly more resistant to corrosion from the inside. However, most units are a poor fit.

Supposedly the new OE BEHR uses all copper tubes, unlike the original one with copper tubes but an aluminum manifold.

Moreover, the parts section of Mercedesshop, now carries a Proliance/Modine-brand of evaporator with all-copper tubes including manifold (fins are aluminum) at half the cost of the ACM which uses ONLY aluminum (no copper anywhere). Is the Modine a good fit ?

So, is it better to get an all copper tubing & manifold evaporator, esp. if BEHR, or is the all aluminum one (ACM and Meisterstatz) OK ?

Thanks,
:-) neil

Below is the W124 Proliance/Modine all copper.
