According to the MB EPC the part number for the E300D tank was originally 124 470 00 04 - it is listed as a 90 liter tank.

The EPC also indicates that at some point the part number was changed to 124 470 95 01 and a quick cross check also shows that exact same part number listed as the tank for a 124.036 (500E) in USA trim.

So it seems like the 500E tank, if you could find one, would work for a 90 liter Diesel upgrade.
