About the most useful thing I did was again to visit my best friend for the last 35 years, who has been in intensive care for the past two weeks. He underwent radiation for this round of cancer in his shoulder/throat area. A month ago he went in to the ER after 4 sessions because he couldn't swallow and was becoming malnourished and dehydrated. A month later, he's on a ventilator and stomach feeding tube with no way to talk and his wife is arguing with the hospital, which wants to send him home. ICU to home. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00

I couldn't bring myself to say "Happy 4th" to him, although he's earned it. Mike flew a Huey Cobra AH-1G gunship with the 1st Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam in the late 60's. During his time there, he received a serious arm injury and had to fight to avoid amputation. He's been wearing a metal plate in it for the past 40 years. Maybe it's one of the reason he's where he is, cause he could never have an MRI (with the plate) to establish the true state of his cancer.

I asked him on Friday, what would he call this, a collosal F**K UP? He nodded in agreement. I think he knows the spot he's in, but he's a fighter, and seems to improve with each passing day. 65 years young.
I'm on my way over there now.
Count all your blessings.
