Sorry, I thought I misread the original post. Just reread it a couple of times and I think the original poster should of used the word loose when he wrote tight. Your right, the answer is leverage. I improvised with a simple hammer. Put the claw end facing toward the front of the car and between the top of the alternator and the bracket. Give a little twist to the right to wedge the claw into the alternator and give a mighty pull with your left hand and the adjusting bolt should go through the bracket enough to install the nut with your right hand. I still think the proper belt is the smaller of the two sizes. At least it is on my '81.
