I don't see why we don't have military/soldiers in the airports like other countries around the world. I was traveling the week 9/11 happened. I left to Turks & Cacos on Saturday the 8th on a 7:30 flight out of JFK. We were told to be there "2 hours ahead of time for security reasons." So we got there about 5:15 am, got out of the car and walked right by some brain-deads and into the terminal. We walked to an open cafe for coffee and muffins. We started walking towards our gate at 6:45am. At check-in: "Are these your bags ? YES. Were they with you the whole time ? YES. Did anyone ask you to take something on board that's not yours ? NO" Hand over the 2 suitcases and board. Tremendous security.

I've flown several times since and the only difference is longer check-in lines and taking my shoes off. It certainly gives the "perception" that we're safer.....
