Before returning their verdict, the jury asked the judge whether the court would account for the time he has already served. The judge said that he would get credit for time served. About an hour later, the jury came back with a 5-year sentence, which really works out to about a 4-1/2 month sentence.
The lawyer who represented Hamdan before the U.S. Supreme Court was on the radio this evening. He said that it really says something that a trial as unfair as the one they gave Hamdan would only come back with a 4-1/2 month sentence. It's now seven years since 9/11 and we've finished our first big war crimes trial since WWII. All we have to show for it is a damaged reputation for running such a kangaroo court and a conviction against OBL's driver. Great work W. You are really kicking some butt in your War on Terror.
