Thank you all for your great advice. Mystery solved. It was the connector for the anti-theft circuit for the radio which attaches to what looks like a mounting point at the back, middle, bottom of the radio.

Just finished installing the centre console tonight. On the weekend I'll tackle the dash and the instrument panel. Then I hope everything will be as it should be except for the refrigerant recharge. Bob
