You did not specify whether the headlights were switched on or off during this scenario...
...I'm assuming here that the headlight switch would have initially been set to the "ON" position for said lights to be illuminated in the first place. Whether of not the key is in the ignition doesn't matter.
I would also assume that you turned the headlight switch to the "OFF" position, and those lights remained illuminated?
Since this issue is concentrated on the dash, door and console lights, it would have to be an issue with the headlight switch, or a loose ground that is shared by those switches.
