Exactly. It was after 1972 when we first started dealing with 'Red China' or the PRC. We then hung the ROC (Taiwan) out to dry even though they have become a vibrant multi-party democracy (the KMT has not been in power for years now)

The ROC was the legitimate government of all of China from 1911 to 1949.

"Chinese Taipei" is the new Politically Correct way to refer to the island ot Taiwan as it implcitly implies that it is a part of mainland China and that the government in Taipei is really just a provincial administraton and not a separate nation.

If Taiwan is allowed to participate in these Olympic games, you will see them under that name and without their national flag. However I do not think they were either allowed to participate or attended if they were.
