I sure like my VW TDI, but they are at a premium right now (price-wise), and some have complained about VW's service. I have always serviced mine myself, and will take it to TDI-specific mechanics when the TB is due. You should be able to find a nice one for around $10K if you look carefully. Maintenance history showing correct oil use and TB changes are a must.
